Inside the mind of a teen in the 1990s
With modern times came the growth of advanced
technology, conveniently aiding our lives. More technology leads to more radio
stations, TV channels, Internet, and multifunctional handheld devices. With so
many resources, why does the modern youth seem so uneducated in politics? Contrary,
decades ago when the American population as a whole seemed to have firm
opinions of their beliefs and follow politics and notable world events. However,
as we entered the 1990s, the bridge to the new millennium, the media began to
divert their interest to different popular figures—the beautiful celebrities
who typically have little to do with impacting our world. Thus, youth began to
look up to celebrities for their scandalous stories and beautiful looks instead
of our government, authority leaders, and other positive role models. With
negative role models come negative stereotypes to those who follow those role
models: teens. However, what society neglects are the teens in this era that
deviated from the negative influences and used the advanced technology to their
advantage.
